Court interpreter for Sinhala language – Sinhala script and official documents of Sri Lanka
• Sinhala script requires careful transmission of personal and institutional names
• official forms may have parallel sections in Tamil and English
• before the offer, it should be determined which language columns must be translated
We make translations from Sinhala to Croatian for personal, educational, work and official documents from Sri Lanka. A court interpreter for the Sinhala language is contracted after checking the script, variant, source and target languages and the recipient’s requirements. After reviewing the complete document, we send you a quote covering the scope, total price, deadline and delivery arrangements.
Sri Lankan documents are often multilingual: Sinhala may appear alongside Tamil and English. That’s why not only the main title is evaluated, but every column, stamp and back. Before the order, we determine which parts are the original and which are the auxiliary translation, and what form of certification the institution accepts. Translation of Sinhala documents for work, study and official use
Most often, we translate criminal record certificates and other official certificates, birth certificates, school documents, driver’s and work certificates. Employers can order translations of contracts, notices and induction materials for Sri Lankan workers. For official submission, it should be checked in advance whether the English version of the document is sufficient or whether a translation of the original Sinhala text is required.
Most frequently asked questions for the translation of Sinhala documents
- Criminal record certificates and other official certificates
- Birth, marriage and family status certificates
- Certificates, diplomas, academic transcripts and certificates of education
- Driving licenses, identification and residence documents
- Employment contracts, employer’s certificates and work statements
- Instructions, notices and materials for employees
This list covers commonly requested documents, but is not exhaustive. You can also send another type of document for Sinhala translation; during the review we pay particular attention to the Sinhala script, Sri Lankan institutions and possible parallel parts in Tamil or English.
Sinhala script and parallel Tamil and English text
There may be three language versions on the document, which are not necessarily exactly the same. The translator goes through all the columns and marks the differences, instead of automatically taking the English part as the only source.
For names and places, we rely on the official Latin-script spelling. If the English version and the passport do not match, the difference must be resolved before the final authentication.
When a certified translation is requested for the Sinhala language
A certified translation for official use is prepared by an appointed permanent court interpreter for Sinhala, subject to availability and the receiving authority’s requirements. Before accepting the assignment, we check the language of each page, the country of issue and the verification process. If direct certification is unavailable, we ask the relevant authority to confirm whether an alternative is acceptable. Before you order, we also check the number of copies, whether the translation must be attached to the original or a copy, and any Apostille requirements.
Interpretation: Sinhala and Croatian in official and business situations
We arrange interpreting between Sinhala and Croatian for conversations with the employer, the police or other authorities, court and administrative proceedings, meetings and other official appointments agreed in advance. If the organiser or relevant authority requires an appointed permanent court interpreter, please tell us when you enquire. We confirm the booking once we have checked the location, date, duration, subject and any documents needed for preparation.
Do I need a Sinhala document Apostille or other legalisation?
Certification by a court interpreter does not replace an Apostille or other legalisation. The requirements depend on the document, the countries involved and the receiving authority. Check which steps are needed and in what order before arranging your translation. Read more in our Apostille guide.

What to send for accurate assessment of Sinhala document
- Before quoting, please provide a complete and legible copy of the document in Sinhala, not just the main text pages.
- Tell us the source and target languages, country of issue, intended use, deadline and any certification requirements. For interpreting, include the location, date and expected duration. We pay particular attention to the Sinhala script, Sri Lankan institutions and any parallel parts in Tamil or English.
- After checking the Sinhala text and the request of the recipient, we confirm the translator, the available form of certification, the price and the realistic delivery date.
- We translate the agreed material and check that every part of the document has been included. We then bind the certified translation and deliver it as arranged.
What affects the cost and deadline of a Sinhala translation?
The price of a Sinhala court interpreter translation depends on whether a written certified translation or an interpreting is required. In the case of a written translation, the scope, complexity, readability, number of stamps, certification and deadline affect the price, and in the case of interpreting, the duration, location, preparation and possible travel expenses. We base your quote on the actual scope, the necessary specialist review, certification and delivery method. For larger projects, it is possible to agree on phased delivery and terminology guidelines. We pay particular attention to the Sinhala script, Sri Lankan institutions and possible parallel parts in Tamil or English.
