Taking a driving test in Croatia can be challenging if Croatian is not your first language. Understanding the questions and instructions is essential. At Inovatus Translations, we arrange professional court interpreting for driving tests, including HAK examinations.

When might you need an interpreter for a HAK driving test?

If you are preparing for a driving test administered by the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK), check the language arrangements with your driving school or test centre. You may need an interpreter for the following reasons:

  • Language support: If you do not understand Croatian well enough to follow the examination, ask about interpreting for your HAK test.
  • Official requirements: Your driving school or test centre can confirm whether your examination requires an appointed court interpreter and what arrangements apply.
  • Clear communication: A court interpreter conveys the questions and instructions accurately, helping you understand what is being asked.

Professional interpreting for your driving test

We work with court interpreters for driving tests across a range of languages, including English, French, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, German, Italian and Spanish. We confirm availability for your language, location and test date before accepting a booking.

What does a court interpreter do during a HAK driving test?

The interpreter’s role is to convey the examination content accurately and impartially. They help you understand the questions and instructions while respecting the test organiser’s rules.

Understanding questions and instructions

A driving test assesses your knowledge of road safety and your ability to make appropriate decisions. Accurate interpreting helps you understand what the examiner is asking without changing the content or difficulty of the test.

A court interpreter conveys the examiner’s words in the language you understand. Their task is to preserve the meaning and detail of the original, so you can respond to the same questions and instructions as other candidates.

Impartiality during the test

A court interpreter must remain accurate, impartial and confidential throughout the assignment.

The interpreter conveys the examination content; they do not coach candidates, suggest answers or provide additional explanations of driving rules. They follow the test organiser’s instructions about how interpreting is conducted.

Where an interpreter is required, this separation of roles helps keep the examination fair: the examiner assesses your knowledge and driving skills, while the interpreter handles communication.

Consistency across languages

Qualified court interpreters aim to convey the same meaning and level of detail across languages. Preparation and consistent terminology help them communicate examination content accurately.

The aim is to give candidates access to the same information, without adding hints, omitting details or changing the question.

Confirming the examination requirements

Before booking a certified court interpreter , ask your driving school or HAK test centre which arrangements apply to your examination. Share those instructions with us so we can check availability and confirm the assignment.

Where HAK requires a court interpreter , we arrange language support around the confirmed test requirements. Our role is to provide accurate, impartial interpreting throughout the appointment.
