Burmese court interpreter – Myanmar documents and Burmese script
• a Burmese name does not have to have a European division into first and last name
• the Latin transcription may vary, so it is compared with the passport
• the English parallel text is not automatically taken as a full equivalent of the original
Burmese personal names do not have to have the European division into first and last name, and the Latin transcription may vary between documents. That is why we associate the order and official form of the name with the passport and compare the possible English parallel text with the Burmese original. Information about the procedure is available on the site certified translations by court interpreters.
Burmese uses the Myanmar script with distinctive rounded characters and may contain local number forms. The Latin notation of personal names is not always unique, so for an official translation, we check the passport, the issuer and all numerical markings before confirming the text. An overview of related services can be found on the page Asian languages.
When is a Burmese court interpreter needed?
The most frequent inquiries are related to personal and family documents, school certificates, work documents, declarations and residence documents. Due to less availability of experts, the possibility of a certified translation and the deadline must be confirmed after reviewing the entire document.
Burmese documents from Myanmar that we translate most often
- Personal and identity documents
- Birth, marriage and family status certificates
- School certificates, diplomas and other qualifications
- Employment contracts and residence documents
- Declarations, powers of attorney and administrative documents
- Other official contents in Burmese language
This list covers commonly requested documents, but is not exhaustive. You can also send another type of document for Burmese translation, we pay particular attention to the Myanmar alphabet and numbers, the legibility of the scans, the official Latin-script spelling of the name, seals and the availability of the appropriate specialist.
Myanmar: the structure of the personal name does not have to correspond to the European first-surname model
With Burmese documents, we pay special attention to personal names. Myanmar names do not have to contain a hereditary family surname in the European sense, so we do not automatically divide them into the fields “first name” and “surname” without checking the official identification document.
For personal names, we use the official Latin-script spelling when available. Since different transcriptions can give different forms, consistency is checked across all attached documents.
Myanmar script and fonts
Older digital documents may use different ways of encoding the Myanmar script, which sometimes causes characters to be displayed incorrectly. If the text is deformed or illegible, we are looking for a better quality original instead of guessing the content.
Personal names
The Latin notation of the name can be different between a passport, a school document and an older document. We take a valid identification document as the main reference and consistently link the variants.
Seals, figures and handwriting
Official documents may contain stamps, local figures or handwritten additions. To estimate scope, we look for the entire high-resolution page, including the edges of the document and the back.
Document authentication from Myanmar – what to check before ordering
For official use, we first check whether there is a permanent Burmese court interpreter available for the requested language pair and whether the body to which the document is submitted accepts such a form. If direct certification is unavailable, we ask the relevant authority to confirm whether an alternative is acceptable. Before quoting, we check the Myanmar alphabet and numbers, scan legibility, official Latin name record, seals and the availability of the appropriate specialist. We also confirm the number of copies, whether the translation must be attached to the original or a copy, and any Apostille or other legalisation requirements specified by the recipient.
Interpretation: Burmese and Croatian in official and business situations
We arrange interpreting for business meetings, appointments with a notary or registrar, conversations with the employer, court and administrative proceedings and other official appointments agreed in advance. For Burmese, we check the variant or regional form when relevant, location, date, duration and topic before booking. If the organiser or competent authority requires the presence of a permanent court interpreter, this should be stated when sending the request.
Apostille and legalisation for a document from Myanmar
Certification by a court interpreter does not replace an Apostille or other legalisation. The requirements depend on the document, the countries involved and the receiving authority. Check which steps are needed and in what order before arranging your translation. Read more in our Apostille guide.
What we check before confirming a Burmese translation
Before quoting, we check three things in particular: the Burmese name does not have to have a European division into first and last names; the Latin transcription may vary, so it is compared to the passport; the English parallel text is not automatically taken as the full equivalent of the original. We then confirm the scope, source and target languages, available form of certification, total price, deadline and delivery arrangements. Your quote reflects the actual work involved, rather than an estimate based only on page count.
What to send for an accurate assessment of a document from Myanmar
- Send a clear, complete copy of your document, including all stamps, notes and attachments, so we can assess the translation requirements.
- Specify the source and target languages, the country of issue, the purpose of use, the requested deadline and information about the certification. In particular, we will check the Myanmar alphabet and numbers, the legibility of the scans, the official Latin-script spelling of names, seals and the availability of the appropriate specialist.
- By reviewing the Burmese document, we determine the actual scope and required expertise, and then confirm the certification, price, deadline and number of copies.
- We translate the agreed material and check that every part of the document has been included. We then bind the certified translation and deliver it as arranged.
What affects the price and deadline of document translation from Myanmar?
The final amount depends on the content that is actually translated, the required expertise, stamps, direction, certification and deadline. In the case of oral engagements, the duration, place and time of preparation are additionally evaluated. A rare language pair, illegible stamps and complex image documents can affect the deadline and price. We state the exact amount and deadline only after reviewing the material and confirming the availability of the appropriate specialist.
