Court interpreter for Indonesian language – documents from Indonesia and difference to Malay

What you need to know
• Indonesian and Malay are related but not interchangeable in official translation
• official forms may contain English names or local abbreviations
• for verification, an acceptable language and certification path is checked before the start

We provide translations from Indonesian to Croatian and from Croatian to Indonesian for personal documents, work, education, tourism and business. A court interpreter for the Indonesian language is contracted after checking the script, variant, source and target languages and the request of the recipient. After reviewing the complete document, we send you a quote covering the scope, total price, deadline and delivery arrangements.

Indonesian and Malay are related, but official documents should not automatically be treated as the same language. Body names, educational terms and administrative wording depend on the country. For the certification of a rare language pair, we pay particular attention to what is accepted by a Croatian or foreign institution. You will find related translations and language pairs in the overview Asian languages.

Indonesian documents by type of procedure and country of issue

Citizens need a translation for marriage, residence registration, work permit, studies and proof of personal status. Companies order it for contracts, certificates, offers, instructions and communication with Indonesian partners. If an official English version has already been released, it is necessary to check whether the translation can be made from it or whether the original in Indonesian must be used.

Types of Indonesian documents in personal and business cases

  • Birth and marriage certificates, marriage certificates and family documents
  • Criminal record, residence and citizenship certificates
  • Diplomas and academic certificates
  • Employment contracts, letters from employers and residence documents
  • Business contracts, registers, offers and certificates
  • Instructions, web content and communication materials

This list covers commonly requested documents, but is not exhaustive. You can also send another type of document for Indonesian language translation, we pay particular attention to the Indonesian administrative names, the issuer of the document and the possibility that the body to which the document is submitted requests a translation through an intermediate language.

Indonesian and Malay are not interchangeable in official translation

Although speakers often understand each other, Indonesian and Malay have different official terminology. In the offer, we therefore note the country of issue and do not assign the document to the translator only according to the general designation “Malay/Indonesian”.

If the document has an English translation, we compare it with the original. The English version can be useful for checking names and titles, but it does not automatically become the only source for a certified translation.

Certified Indonesian translation – what to check before official submission

A certified translation for official use is prepared by an appointed permanent court interpreter for Indonesian, subject to availability and the receiving authority’s requirements. Before accepting the assignment, we check the type of document, the direction of translation, the purpose of use and the request of the body to which the document is submitted. If direct certification is unavailable, we ask the relevant authority to confirm whether an alternative is acceptable. Before you order, we also check the number of copies, whether the translation must be attached to the original or a copy, and any Apostille requirements.

Indonesian language interpretation for meetings and official procedures

We arrange interpreting between Indonesian and Croatian for conversations with the employer, the police or other authorities, court and administrative proceedings, meetings and other official appointments agreed in advance. If the organiser or relevant authority requires an appointed permanent court interpreter, please tell us when you enquire. We confirm the booking once we have checked the location, date, duration, subject and any documents needed for preparation.

legalisation of an Indonesian document for international use

Before using a document abroad, ask the receiving organisation whether it requires a certified translation, an Apostille, other legalisation or a combination of these. Confirm the requirements before arranging the translation. For practical guidance, see our Apostille guide.

For Indonesian, document translation and interpreting are priced differently. Translation costs depend on the length and complexity of the document, legibility, stamps, certification and deadline. Interpreting costs depend on the duration, location, preparation and any travel required. The final amount is affected by the type of document, multilingual parts, authentication method and deadline.
