Court interpreter for the Lithuanian language – documents from Lithuania for work, study and legal procedures
• diacritics and name forms are compared with the identification document
• working and educational documents are common in EU cross-border procedures
• diploma translation is not the same as official recognition of the qualification
Lithuanian documents are often used for work, education and family procedures within the EU. In the translation, we pay special attention to diacritics, the record of personal names and the name of the qualification, while clearly distinguishing the translation of a document from the process of official recognition of education.
Lithuanian official documents may contain diacritical marks and grammatically altered forms of personal names. When translating, it is important to distinguish the official title of the qualification from its descriptive translation and to consistently convey the names of registers, institutions and legal forms. When is a court interpreter needed for the Lithuanian language?
Most often, birth certificates, criminal record certificates, diplomas, employment certificates, court documents, vehicle documents and business statements are translated. The purpose of use determines whether the certified translation should be certified and how the translation should be connected to the original.
Lithuanian documents that we most often translate
- Birth and marriage certificates and status certificates
- Criminal record and residence certificates
- Diplomas, transcripts and academic certificates
- Employment contracts and seniority documents
- Court decisions, powers of attorney and notarial documents
- Business registers, vehicle documents and financial documentation
This list covers commonly requested documents, but is not exhaustive. You can also send another type of document for Lithuanian language translation, we pay particular attention to diacritics, forms of personal names, names of qualifications, registers and official abbreviations.
Lithuania: diacritics, grammatical forms and official names of institutions
Lithuanian uses the letters ą, č, ę, ė, į, š, ų, ū and ž, and personal names and titles may have grammatical forms that are not obvious to the Croatian reader. In the case of official documents, we keep the original record and check that it matches the identification documents.
We translate the name of the diploma or professional qualification descriptively and terminologically precisely, but we do not claim that the qualification is thereby recognized in Croatia. The competent authority decides on recognition or evaluation.
Birth and identification documents
For birth, marriage and other birth certificates, we check the personal code, place of issue, official abbreviations and all characters in names. The information from the passport has priority when determining the international Latin form.
Diplomas and educational certificates
We do not automatically convert the name of the qualification and the name of the institution into the Croatian equivalent. The translation clearly distinguishes the original name of the program from a descriptive translation that helps the recipient understand the level and field of education.
Business and legal documents
We check the legal form of the entity, the register number and the name of the competent authority for contracts, court documents and register extracts. Numerical identifiers remain in their original form.
Document authentication from Lithuania – what to check before ordering
A certified translation for official use is prepared by an appointed permanent court interpreter for Lithuanian, subject to availability and the receiving authority’s requirements. Before accepting the assignment, we check diacritics, forms of personal names, names of qualifications, registers and official abbreviations. If direct certification is unavailable, we do not assume a substitute procedure, but ask for confirmation from the competent authority. Before you order, we also check the number of copies, whether the translation must be attached to the original or a copy, and any Apostille requirements.
Interpretation: Lithuanian and Croatian in official and business situations
We arrange interpreting for business meetings, appointments with a notary or registrar, conversations with the employer, court and administrative proceedings and other official appointments agreed in advance. For the Lithuanian language, we check the variant or regional form when relevant, place, date, duration and topic before booking. If the organiser or competent authority requires the presence of a permanent court interpreter, this should be stated when sending the request.
Apostille and legalisation for a document from Lithuania
Certification by a court interpreter does not replace an Apostille or other legalisation. The requirements depend on the document, the countries involved and the receiving authority. Check which steps are needed and in what order before arranging your translation. Read more in our Apostille guide.
What we check before confirming the Lithuanian translation
Before quoting, we check three things in particular: diacritics and forms of the name are compared with the identification document; work and education documents are common in EU cross-border procedures; the translation of the diploma is not the same as the official recognition of the qualification. We then confirm the scope, source and target languages, available form of certification, total price, deadline and delivery arrangements. Your quote reflects the actual work involved, rather than an estimate based only on page count.
What to send for an accurate assessment of a document from Lithuania
- To view the translation from the Lithuanian language, send all pages in their original order and include the reverse sides and appendices.
- Specify the source and target languages, the country of issue, the purpose of use, the requested deadline and information about the certification. We pay particular attention to diacritics, forms of personal names, names of qualifications, registers and official abbreviations.
- By reviewing the Lithuanian document, we determine the actual scope and required expertise, and then confirm the certification, price, deadline and number of copies.
- We translate the agreed material and check that every part of the document has been included. We then bind the certified translation and deliver it as arranged.
What affects the price and deadline of document translation from Lithuania?
The final amount depends on the content that is actually translated, the required expertise, stamps, direction, certification and deadline. In the case of oral engagements, the duration, place and time of preparation are additionally assessed. Educational documents with diploma supplements, grade tables and more official designations require more terminological checking. We state the exact amount and deadline only after reviewing the material and confirming the availability of the appropriate specialist.
