Court interpreter for Turkmen language – documents from Turkmenistan and script change
• modern Turkmen uses Latin, and older documents may be Cyrillic
• Russian parts are common in older documentation
• the official Latin-script spelling of the name is more important than free transliteration
Modern Turkmen uses the Latin script, while older documents may be in Cyrillic or Russian. That’s why there can be three different records of the same name in one case. The translation connects them according to the passport and does not create a new transliteration without an official basis. Information about the procedure is available on the site certified translations by court interpreters.
Modern Turkmen uses the Latin alphabet with special letters such as ä, ç, ş, ž, ň, ö and ü, while older documents may be in Cyrillic or contain Russian. That’s why we pay particular attention to the script, year of issue and matching of personal data between multiple documents for older documents. An overview of related services can be found on the page Asian languages.
When is a court interpreter needed for the Turkmen language?
Inquiries usually refer to personal and birth documents, diplomas, certificates, employment contracts, declarations and residence documents. For certification, the availability of a suitable permanent court interpreter and the request of the body receiving the document are checked.

Turkmenistan: modern Latin and older documents in Cyrillic
Modern Turkmen uses the Latin alphabet with letters specific to Turkmen, while older documents may be in Cyrillic or contain Russian. The year of issue and the script are therefore important already during the first evaluation of the document.
For older documents, we first determine whether the text is Turkmen in Cyrillic, Russian or combined. Only then is the translator and scope of the translation determined.
Modern Turkmen Latin
Letters like ä, ç, ş, ý, ž, ň, ö and ü are part of the official notation. For personal names and places, we keep the original form and compare it with the Latin entry in the passport.
Older Cyrillic documents
Documents from the Soviet or early post-Soviet period may be in Turkmen Cyrillic and Russian. We do not treat such a document as modern Latin Turkmen without checking the language and period of issue.
Birth, education and employment documents
For personal, educational and work documents, we check the name of the institution, personal data, dates and stamps. If a Russian parallel text is present, we include it in the assessment as a separate language element.
Document certification from Turkmenistan – what to check before ordering
For official use, we first check whether a permanent court interpreter for the Turkmen language is available for the requested language pair and whether the body to which the document is submitted accepts this form. If direct certification is unavailable, we ask the relevant authority to confirm whether an alternative is acceptable. Before quoting, we check the modern Latin alphabet, special letters, possible older Cyrillic or Russian parts, the official record of the name and certification. We also confirm the number of copies, whether the translation must be attached to the original or a copy, and any Apostille or other legalisation requirements specified by the recipient.
Interpretation: Turkmen and Croatian in official and business situations
We arrange interpreting for business meetings, appointments with a notary or registrar, conversations with the employer, court and administrative proceedings and other official appointments agreed in advance. For the Turkmen language, we check the variant or regional form when relevant, location, date, duration and topic before booking. If the organiser or competent authority requires the presence of a permanent court interpreter, this should be stated when sending the request.
Apostille and legalisation for a document from Turkmenistan
Certification by a court interpreter does not replace an Apostille or other legalisation. The requirements depend on the document, the countries involved and the receiving authority. Check which steps are needed and in what order before arranging your translation. Read more in our Apostille guide.
What we check before confirming the Turkmen translation
Before quoting, we check three things in particular: modern Turkmen uses the Latin alphabet, and older documents may be Cyrillic; Russian parts are common in older documentation; the official Latin-script spelling of the name is more important than the free transliteration. We then confirm the scope, source and target languages, available form of certification, total price, deadline and delivery arrangements. Your quote reflects the actual work involved, rather than an estimate based only on page count.
What to send for an accurate assessment of a document from Turkmenistan
- Send a readable PDF or photos of the entire document for Turkmen translation, with visible edges, stamps and signatures.
- Specify the source and target languages, the country of issue, the purpose of use, the requested deadline and information about the certification. In particular, we will check modern Latin, special letters, possibly older Cyrillic or Russian parts, the official name record and certification.
- After the review, we confirm the scope of the Turkmen translation, the availability of a suitable translator or a permanent court interpreter, the method of certification, the price, the deadline and delivery.
- We translate the agreed material and check that every part of the document has been included. We then bind the certified translation and deliver it as arranged.
What affects the price and deadline of document translation from Turkmenistan?
The final amount depends on the content that is actually translated, the required expertise, stamps, direction, certification and deadline. In the case of oral engagements, the duration, place and time of preparation are additionally assessed. Older documents in a different script or with Russian parts may require additional language identification. We state the exact amount and deadline only after reviewing the material and confirming the availability of the appropriate specialist.
