Court interpreter for Urdu language – documents from Pakistan in Urdu and English

What you need to know
• Pakistani documents are often Urdu-English
• Urdu script and right-left layout require special data control
• the Latin notation of the personal name is aligned with the passport

Pakistani documents often combine Urdu and English, and the two columns do not always have to be exactly the same. In the translation, we therefore check the names, dates, numbers and names of bodies in both records and the official Latin form from the passport. Information about the procedure is available on the site certified translations by court interpreters.

Urdu is written from right to left in the Arabic-Persian script, often in the nastaliq style. Pakistani official documents may combine Urdu and English, so check whether the English part is full parallel text or just part of the form before quoting. The official Latin-script spelling is used for names when available. An overview of related services can be found on the page Asian languages.

When is an Urdu court interpreter required?

The most common are educational documents, birth and family documents, police certificates, employment contracts, statements and residence documents. In the case of handwritten or poorly scanned parts, illegible content is not reconstructed according to the assumption.

Pakistani Urdu-English documents that we translate most often

  • Diplomas, certificates and academic transcripts
  • Birth, marriage and family status certificates
  • Police and other official certificates
  • Employment contracts and employer certificates
  • Declarations, powers of attorney and residence documents
  • Administrative and business forms with Urdu and English text

This list covers commonly requested documents, but is not exhaustive. You can also send another type of document for Urdu translation, we pay particular attention to nastaliq or other Urdu script, direction of writing, English parallel parts, official Latin-script spelling of names and document numbers.

Pakistan: Urdu, English and documents combining both languages

Pakistani official documents often combine Urdu and English. Urdu is written from right to left in the Persian-Arabic script, and personal information can have a parallel Latin notation, which is essential for consistent translation of names and document numbers.

If there is an English column, we check if it matches the Urdu text. Differences in personal names or names of institutions are recorded and resolved before the final version.

Personal documents and identification numbers

With personal documents, we transfer the name exactly according to the Latin notation when it is given, and we use the Urdu form for verification. We do not reformat identification numbers, dates and field labels.

Nikah nama and family documents

Marriage documents may contain handwritten parts, seals and multiple persons with different roles. For an accurate assessment we ask for all pages and a clear recording of each handwritten entry.

Educational and police certificates

Diplomas, certificates from education boards and police certificates can be in English, Urdu or both languages. The language is determined by the actual content, not just by the country of issue.

Document authentication from Pakistan – what to check before ordering

For official use, we first check if there is a permanent court interpreter for the Urdu language available for the requested language pair and if the body to which the document is submitted accepts such a form. If direct certification is unavailable, we ask the relevant authority to confirm whether an alternative is acceptable. Before quoting, we check nastaliq or other Urdu script, writing direction, English parallel parts, official Latin-script spelling of names and document numbers. We also confirm the number of copies, whether the translation must be attached to the original or a copy, and any Apostille or other legalisation requirements specified by the recipient.

Interpretation: Urdu and Croatian in official and business situations

We arrange interpreting for business meetings, appointments with a notary or registrar, conversations with the employer, court and administrative proceedings and other official appointments agreed in advance. For Urdu language, we check the variant or regional form when relevant, venue, date, duration and topic before booking. If the organiser or competent authority requires the presence of a permanent court interpreter, this should be stated when sending the request.

Apostille and legalisation for a document from Pakistan

Check Apostille requirements separately from translation requirements. Some authorities ask for the original to be legalised before it is translated; others accept a different order. Before placing your order, confirm the receiving authority’s instructions and read our Apostille guide.

What we check before confirming urdu translation

Before quoting, we check three things in particular: Pakistani documents are often Urdu-English; Urdu script and right-left layout require special data control; the Latin notation of the personal name is aligned with the passport. We then confirm the scope, source and target languages, available form of certification, total price, deadline and delivery arrangements. Your quote reflects the actual work involved, rather than an estimate based only on page count.

What to send for accurate document evaluation from Pakistan

  1. Send a readable PDF or photos of the entire document for Urdu translation, with visible edges, stamps and signatures.
  2. Specify the source and target languages, the country of issue, the purpose of use, the requested deadline and information about the certification. In particular, we will check nastaliq or other Urdu script, direction of writing, English parallel parts, official Latin-script spelling of names and document numbers.
  3. By reviewing the Urdu document, we determine the actual scope and required expertise, and then confirm the certification, price, deadline and number of copies.
  4. Your quote covers translation and a final review. It also sets out the format, the number of certified copies and the delivery arrangements.

What affects the price and deadline of document translation from Pakistan?

The price is not determined only by the number of pages. The density of the text, tables, seals, area, source and target languages, certification and urgency are taken into account, and in the case of interpretation, the place, duration and preparatory materials. Right-to-left breaks, handwritten parts, and bilingual forms can increase technical and linguistic verification time. We state the exact amount and deadline only after reviewing the material and confirming the availability of the appropriate specialist.
