Italian court interpreter – civil registry, real estate and legal documents

What you need to know
• comune, court, notary and cadastre have different functions in the document
• real estate and inheritance documents often refer to attachments and other documents
• the name of the Italian qualification is not automatically equated with the Croatian degree

Italian registry, real estate and legal documents often contain links to other documents, attachments, cadastral marks or certifications. For this reason, we look for the entire document for evaluation and distinguish the name of the body, the type of act and the legal function, instead of translating only the text that is visible at first glance.

In Italian documents, the names of municipalities, provinces, courts, chambers and notary bodies often appear, which are not mechanically translated. In documents for real estate and inheritance, we pay particular attention to cadastral marks, tax identifiers and a consistent record of personal data. You can browse other language pairs among the services for European languages.

When is a court interpreter needed for the Italian language?

The most common are translations of birth and marriage certificates, certificates of criminal record, diplomas, sales contracts, powers of attorney, inheritance documents and business statements. Companies order contracts, invoices, technical certificates and documentation from suppliers.

Italian documents that we most often translate

  • Birth and marriage certificates and personal status certificates
  • Criminal record, residence and citizenship certificates
  • Sales contracts, powers of attorney and documentation for real estate
  • Court decisions, probate and notarial documents
  • Diplomas, school certificates and educational records
  • Extracts from registers, business contracts, invoices and technical documentation

The list includes the most frequently asked questions, but is not exhaustive. You can also send another type of document for Italian translation, we pay particular attention to municipal and notary names, cadastral marks, tax identifiers, dates and the correspondence of personal data.

Italy: municipalities, real estate, notarial deeds and business registers

For Italian documents, the level of the institution that issued the document is important: municipality (Comune), court, notary public, university, tax authority or commercial register. The same term can have a different function than the Croatian term that resembles it at first glance.

Personal names and places with apostrophes or accents are kept according to the official record. If the document is older or handwritten, we mark the illegible parts instead of guessing.

Registry and municipal documents

Birth certificates, marriage certificates, certificates of residence and marital status often come from municipal records. We check the full name of the certificate, Comune information, marginal notes and any multilingual forms.

Real estate and notarial deeds

In the case of sales contracts, power of attorney, land and cadastral documents, we distinguish the legal function of the act from the technical data on the real estate. For notarial documents, we also translate certification forms, seals and references to attachments.

Business and tax documents

We check the legal form of the company, registration data and tax codes for visura camerala, contracts and corporate documents. We transfer Codice fiscale and Partita IVA as identification data, without reshaping their labels.

Document authentication from Italy – what to check before ordering

A certified translation for official use is prepared by an appointed permanent court interpreter for Italian, subject to availability and the receiving authority’s requirements. We check municipal and notarial terms, cadastral references, tax identifiers, dates and consistency of personal details. If direct certification is unavailable, we seek confirmation from the competent authority. Check the number of copies, attachment to an original or copy, and any Apostille requirement before ordering.

Interpretation: Italian and Croatian in official and business situations

We arrange interpreting for business meetings, appointments with a notary or registrar, conversations with the employer, court and administrative proceedings and other official appointments agreed in advance. For the Italian language, before booking, we check the variant or regional form when relevant, place, date, duration and topic. If the organiser or competent authority requires the presence of a permanent court interpreter, this should be stated when sending the request.

Apostille and legalisation for a document from Italy

Certification and translation certification are not the same procedure. The need for an Apostille is influenced by the origin of the document, the country in which it will be used and the rules of the competent authority. A summary of the questions to be checked can be found in Apostille guide.

What we check before confirming the Italian translation

Before quoting, we check three things in particular: the municipality (comune), the court, the notary and the cadastre have different functions in the document; real estate and inheritance documents often refer to attachments and other documents; the name of the Italian qualification is not automatically equated with the Croatian degree. We then confirm the scope, source and target languages, available form of certification, total price, deadline and delivery arrangements. Your quote reflects the actual work involved, rather than an estimate based only on page count.

What to send for an accurate assessment of a document from Italy

  1. Submit complete copies of documentation for the Italian language; omitted stamps or notes may change the scope of the translation.
  2. Specify the source and target languages, the country of issue, the purpose of use, the requested deadline and information about the certification. In particular, we will check municipal and notary names, cadastral marks, tax identifiers, dates and the correspondence of personal data.
  3. On the basis of the entire document, we confirm the availability of a suitable specialist for the Italian language, the scope of the translation, the need for certification, and the total price and deadline.
  4. After confirmation, the translation begins, followed by the control of personal data, tags and terminology. The finished material is submitted through the agreed channel.

What affects the price and deadline of document translation from Italy?

Before sending your quote, we evaluate the scope and complexity, readability of the original, professional terminology, form of certification and deadline. For an agreed interpreting, the price also depends on the duration, location and preparation. Real estate and notary documents may have more attachments, tables and official markings that increase the scope of verification. We state the exact amount and deadline only after reviewing the material and confirming the availability of the appropriate specialist.
